Dorothy E. Laur, born November 16, 1924 to Mildred and Hazen Reavey, in Tuscola County, Michigan, went to be with her Lord on August 5, 2016 at Maplewood of Mt. Pleasant. She was one of seven children, the second oldest. Dorothy attended Graham country school through the 8th grade. Then she attended Caro High School and graduated in 1942. After high school, she worked at the Probate Judge’s office in the Courthouse in Caro as a clerk for several years. Then she worked as Probate Registrar for 8 years. Dorothy married George R. Laur on August 25, 19541 and helped George in his business, Caro Business Equipment, for 20 years. She then worked for a leasing company in Caro for 12 years and retired in 1985.
Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church for 70 some years. She also was a member of the Women’s Society of the church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy loved to bake and gave her cookies to many friends, family, and neighbors. She also was very accomplished at doing crossword puzzles. Dorothy loved music all her life and played the piano and organ. She loved crocheting and ceramics also.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Cheri) and her husband Randy Recker of Mt. Pleasant; two granddaughters, Kelly and Paul Zielinski and Ashlee and John Bergen; a sister, Marilyn Vollmar of Grand Blanc; a brother, William Reavey of Colorado; and three great grandsons, Dylan and Gavin Zielinski and Brady Bergen. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George in 2008; three sisters, Kathleen, Betty, and Margaret; and a brother, Hazen, Jr.
The family would like to thank Maplewood Assisted Living for their compassionate care the last three years and also a thank you to Great Lakes Hospice, especially Gina, for their care the past few weeks of Dorothy’s life.
Memorial service will be held on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Diane Gordon officiating. Interment will be in the Church’s Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends from 10 am until the time of services at the Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church.
